How We Got Started

Who Was Ed Mullaney?

In 1972 Ed and his best friend, Duane Murner, had a dream of becoming entrepreneurs. With a handshake, a prayer, and no money they were able to secure investors and a bank that believed in their dream.
The Doylestown Tennis Club opened its doors on September 15th, 1973. In 2023, the Club will celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

The life and work of Ed are an inspiration for the Mullaney Tennis Foundation.
Below are quotes from friends and colleagues.

“Ed lived and breathed hospitality. This was no business strategy, it’s who he was at his core. Ed said to me many times, ‘People can succeed on so many levels when they do what they love’.”
Jim Klein
Doylestown Tennis Club Director of Tennis

“Never give up on yourself.” One of Ed’s favorite words was perseverance. “He was open to suggestions to change, but never compromised his vision.”
Duane Murner
Doylestown Tennis Club Co-Founder

“Working at the tennis club I’ve learned a lot. Not just about tennis, but about friendship, respect, maturity, humbleness, and helpfulness. My experience has been nothing short of wonderful.”
